The Intifadas
War and Conflict in the Middle East
Intifada is Arabic for "shake off," and in 1987, Palestine began the intifada against the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The violence has continued for more than a decade as Israel struck back against the Palestinians and Palestine eventually declared its independence, leading to a territory dispute with Israel. The intifada continues today in the form of the violent terrorism we see almost nightly on the news. This book will help students understand a dispute that escalates and changes daily.
