Government and Politics in Colonial America

This volume introduces the rivalries among European nations for control of land and wealth in America and the different models--such as royal, charter, and proprietary colonies--used to run the colonies. Key debates and documents are emphasized to help students learn about the personalities and activities that helped lay the foundations for today's democracy. Early versions of the Articles of Confederation and Constitution illustrate for students the challenges of building consensus and framing laws for a new nation.
