John Muir
Naturalist and Explorer
Famous Explorers of the American West
Father of the National Parks and founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir became a leader in protecting America's wilderness. Students explore Muir's life as he takes his 1,000-mile walk from Indiana to Florida to study geology and botany. Students will see some of Muir's journal sketches and read about how he traveled to Alaska to study glaciers. His legacy lives on in the celebration of Earth Day, April 21, which is also Muir's birthday.
