Francisco Pizarro
The Spaniard from Trujillo who conquered Peru, Pizarro first came to America in 1509. He served under Balboa when Balboa first saw the Pacific Ocean. In 1525, Pizarro sailed for Peru, and after several misfortunes reached the port of Tumbes. There he got information about the Incas and their empire. Pizarro left Panama in 1531 to begin his famous voyage. Near Cajamarca, Pizarro met Atahuallpa, the Incan emperor, and imprisoned him.
