The Endeavor Mission STS-61

Fixing the Hubble Space Telescope

Space Missions

In this book, students will follow the "space mechanics" of Endeavour Mission STS-61 as they head to space to fix the Hubble Space Telescope. After releasing the Hubble into space in 1990, scientists found that a tiny mismeasurement in one of the mirrors and other equipment problems caused the pictures the Hubble sent down to Earth to be fuzzy. In 1993, the seven astronauts of Mission STS-61 rode the Endeavour into space, "captured" the Hubble in its payload bay, and made the necessary repairs.
